Peace.

I hope you all are having a wonderful wednesday. My mouth is feeling much better now, so expect an outfit post soon. I thought I would mention some of my recent beauty product purchases. But first, my cat.

Ok, new favorite lipstick. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Romance. A fantastic everyday color. I was iffy about buying Chanel's new shine collection. I am not a big lipgloss wearer, but I have been converted. It is so easy to wear and apply!
Some other things I am obsessed with: Laura Mercier Lip Silk, Bumble and Bumble Texture Creme (with my hair, I need all the texture I can get), Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer (light and easy), Bare Minerals Mineral Veil (who doesn't love this stuff?), and Burt's Bees Deep Cleansing Cream
I saw this picture on tumblr last night. It truly resonated with me for some reason. There is nothing I'd rather do than sit on a bench, reading a fantastic novel, with nothing in front of me but a beautiful lawn and an extraordinary, timeless building.

Lately I have been wondering if I should become an English major. Currently I am studying Public Relations. There's nothing wrong with it. In fact, I am almost guaranteed to have work. The world will always need PR. But is it for me? I love reading and writing. I want to go places, and document my experiences. I feel most comfortable when I am typing my heart out on this keyboard (which is burning my fingers right now, as I am sitting by the pool). I love learning. There are so many subjects I would study if I had the chance, and the time. I think English can give me that. Or at least a part of it. I'm not sure if PR will take me in the direction that holds all I want to do in this life. I also have been thinking about the kinds of people I will encounter. In PR one never represents himself, it is always a person or a company. I want to represent me, and in the process, learn a little more about this "me." And the people I meet are on the same journey. To figure out who they are, and communicate to others how they see this chaotic world in which we live.
Just some thoughts. What do you think?

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, with prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
Philippians 4:6

The Dreamer.

So I knew I didn't have the best hands, but I learned while documenting this nail polish that they are also very un-photogenic. Oh well. Thank you, Publix in Destin, for having random displays of O.P.I. Nail Polish between some aisles. I had been wanting a neutral color for a while, but didn't want it to be completely skin-tone. This color is called "Over The Taupe" and I will be wearing it for the rest of the summer. It goes with everything.

Now for some random photos taken at stoplights.
And the sunset in my den. The sun was setting as the rain fell and all I can say is that I was mystified.
So I have been reading my ginormous Oscar Wilde book  and have fallen even more in love with the classic writer. I thought I was just going to read some, and then have to take a break and read another one of the books I bought. But instead, I have been unable to put it down. One of my favorite stories so far is "The Birthday of the Infanta." It brought tears to my eyes, an extraordinary feat for a story. I suggest all of you read it.

I dreamed last night that I got to hang out with John and Yoko. I have never woken up so happy from a dream in my life. I got to spend some time with one of the most incredible men in history. Even if it was a dream, he was everything I have hoped for. This may sound silly, but I don't really care. I love that man.

A verse that has truly been working in my life: Psalm 51:17
"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart,
O God, you will not despise."

How wonderful of a God we have! He does not want our money, or our time. He wants to take away our pain. He wants to heal us, and help us understand the true meaning of life on Earth.

Uncapped.

So when I mentioned in yesterday's post that I had places to go and people to see, I meant it.
I went to a Vitamin Water fashion show in downtown Raleigh which was really fun! But even better, I got to catch up with some awesome friends.
Right by the location of the show, which happened to be a church, was a cemetery. It had been greatly affected by the tornado. I had posted some pictures before. But this is more damage from trees.

 Silly girls.

It was a great show, I was amazed at some of the designer's technique and originality.

Taylor at the fire station!
Thanks Tay for taking the pictures of me.
We all had a great time. We have all done so many things on our own this year and it's so fun hearing about everyone's lives after high school. I've been feeling very old lately. It's hard growing up. The more experiences you have, the more there is to miss.
Ok, my bit of nostalgia is over.
How do you like my new banner and color scheme? I saw Carolina City Girl's new look and thought I needed to do some sprucing up as well.

"Let the king be enthralled by your beauty;
honor him, for he is your lord."
Psalm 45:11

God is ENTHRALLED by all of us!! How lucky are we, that our Creator can do nothing but look at us and smile.

Thistle And Weeds.

Last night was the Mumford and Sons concert which was possible the best concert I've ever been to. And that means a lot. They were incredible.

Sorry for the quick post, I've got places to go and people to see!

Definitely something I need to work on.
Have a lovely day!

At The Close.

Last night was Fleur-de-lis Rage. A Kappa function. It was a blast! I took Hanna as my date.
 Stephanie and Me.

 Panama City group!!!

Today we had a little Cru field day because it was reading day, therefore no classes or finals.
Yes, I am a beast.

Photo credit to Danielle! Love my Cru people!!

As you can see, a storm was coming.
Afterwards we went on a trip to Yoghut. The best place ever. I tried their new flavor, Spa Honey Lavender which was delicious with strawberries and granola!
The storm hit while I was in my dorm watching my new favorite show, Twin Peaks, on Netflix.

On another note, I have 5 days left here! It's bittersweet. But more sweet than bitter. And my birthday is Saturday! I am so ready for summer.

but fools despise wisdom and discipline."

Frankly, my dear.

I am sitting at Starbucks on a beautiful Sunday morning. This takes me back to a post about a year old, here. It's still cappuccino season, and it may have become an all year thing for me. I have changed so much in these past 8 months. I look back and ask, was that really me? God has turned my entire life upside-down. One might think a situation like that to be a little frightening, but what am I to fear? Nothing. I know God only wants what is best for me. He is my loving Heavenly Father who created me. Down to the last detail. It isn't about me finding who Makena is. It's about God showing me how I can lose Makena and gain Him.

I have been gathering quite a bit of photos lately. I couldn't decide exactly what I wanted this post to feature, so this is one of my longer posts.

Friday we had a little Cru (Campus Crusade) cookout. That was really fun. I am loving this warm weather.

 Hanna and Cooper :)

Friday from 7pm to Saturday at 7am I was at Relay for Life. It was not easy. Especially considering the grandma that I am (not physically, but behavior-wise). But I did it! Kappa was the biggest Greek group! See all the girls in the red shirts with white writing? Those are all kappas.

My awesome big, Maggie, braided my hair. A 5 strand braid. Pretty incredible, I know.

So I just learned how to take screen shots. Yes, I know I am a little slow, but didn't I just mention that I am a grandma in all cases other than physical appearance and offspring? I have been taking screenshots of the movies I have watched lately.

"Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you."
3 John 5

We are to spread God's love to everyone. Even those whom we might consider strangers. God has been laying on my heart the fact that I need to be intentional in every situation. With every person I meet. It sure is hard. But with God I can do anything.

Much love,
Makena
