Timeless.

A few weeks ago my mom and I went to one of her favorite boutiques in Wendell, NC. It is called Kannon's Clothing, a family owned store passed down through generations. The people working there are so wonderful and have grown up with my mom, and seen me grow up as well. One of the ladies there was so kind to show me these shoes she has kept through the years. They belonged to her Aunt, bought in California around 1962. At the time they were $120. Aren't they elegant? They were so narrow, though, that I could barely fit my toes in! And I have fairly average feet width-wise. I wish so badly that I could have lived in that time. Something was different about life back then, it just seemed so full of wonder and beauty. 

This whole wisdom teeth thing is no fun. My medicine just began to kick in again and I am struggling to keep my eyes open. Let me just leave you with this: 

"Your words have supported those who stumbled;

you have strengthened faltering knees."

God uses our struggles! Not only for the strengthening of our own faith and teaching, but also so that we can help others who are going through similar circumstances! Let Him show His good and He will blow your mind! God, you are higher than any other.

It sure has been a while since my last post. Too long, in my opinion. And at a horrible time to be in a blogging slump. Life has been crazy and amazing and eventful. Brace yourself for a post of epic proportions. 

Let's see, last time I posted was Friday. That day ended up being incredibly busy after I escaped all the William and Kate hysteria. I went on a little trip to the mall in search of some bright lipstick. I lucked out and a picture of me wearing it will come up in a bit. But first I must mention a little excursion of mine.

Yes, that is me and a lovely friend of mine with real guns. Some awesome boys took us shooting and it was so much fun. They weren't loaded when we shot this picture, I hope. Anyways, I actually did shoot something. A glass bottle. On the first try. Mhmm. 

The next day was, of course, my birthday! It all began with a wonderful breakfast with my big at Cafe Strudel. I got the same cinnamon pancakes as last time. 

Mmm hangover hash browns. That's their name.

So following breakfast I took some pictures of Kappa seniors on the horseshoe.

We went to a lovely lunch after that at DiPratos. Then later that night Hanna told me we were going to do something for my birthday. But I had no idea... 

...that a highlighter surprise party was planned. I have such incredible friends. I will miss you all over summer, can't wait to go back!!

So I returned home Tuesday. I am still in the process of unpacking and have lost a few things in the process including my glasses. These words are just a blur to me. I apologize for any typos. 

Mom took me through a neighborhood greatly affected by the tornados a few weeks ago. 

 I had no idea the damage was so bad, and we are still recovering. I am glad to be home and be able to experience some of the effects. 

I went to the mall with a high school friend today and finally got to take the Lita's out for a spin. 

Such beauties. 

I came back from school in need of some reorganization. I began with the closet. For those who know me well, you know my closet has never in its life been this neat. And I know some would consider this messy. You're welcome for the lack of "before" picture.

Now to deal with the wreck that is the rest of my room.

 I have redecorated the walls a bit...

And here are the main purchases from the mall today. Thank you, Urban Outfitters, for awesome clothes as well as vinyl records. 

Two of my favorite albums: Mumford & Sons-Sigh No More, Jeff Buckley-Grace. I can't wait to see Mumford & Sons in June!  

I have been on a major music kick lately. All I've been listening to are records since I've been home. Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, and then I just bought a ton of Tom Petty and Allman Brothers Band on iTunes. I have a thirst for fantastic, heart stopping guitar licks. Needless to say, I seriously rocked out on the 3hour 45min drive from Columbia to Raleigh and have been jamming ever since. 

Any music recommendations? I am always happy to add more to my collection.

My flourishing shoe desire. And the beach.

Lately I have become obsessed with shoes. I mean, I always am, but now it's almost overpowering. I really want some Dr. Martens. I'm afraid they will consume my small frame, however. But I keep thinking of outfits with which they would go perfectly. First I wanted metallic silver ones, now I'm thinking black would be more practical. I just cannot decide! Or would biker boots be better? Man, I wish I had all the money in the world.

I really want some chunky, black, strappy wedges. Topshop has some great ones. I love their PACE buckle wedges. I'm afraid I won't be able to ride my cute little beach bike to class, though.  One of my new favorite shoe designers is Rosegold. My prom shoes were made by them and I have yet to see a shoe of theirs that I didn't like. They have fantastic heels with just enough of an edge to show originality.

Anyways, I returned home from the beach yesterday. On our last day there we drove the boat, my aunt's boat, to Cape Lookout. It was absolutely beautiful. I felt like we were in the islands. The beaches seemed to stretch on forever and the water was so clear.

This was an extremely successful vacation. By that, I mean I got some much needed rest, ate delicious home-cooked meals almost every night, learned how to play Canasta, and I am about two shades tanner. I bought some cute dresses that I can't wait to show you. And I ache for shoes more than ever before.

"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:18


This verse shoots my shoe lusting down, way down. Focus on God, not shoes, Makena. Shoes will get you nowhere. Well, in the end. 


As I was updating this blog I was watching Tosh.0. It's my new favorite show and I have Mary Beth Warren to thank for that. I highly recommend it. Big time.
